How long does Huntington hold a check?
If you've been a customer for more than 30 days, the first $500 of your total check deposits may be available immediately on the day Huntington receives the deposit, and the rest the next business day. Cash is available immediately and direct deposits/wires the same business day.
Huntington mobile check deposit: cutoff and availability
Cutoff: 11:59 p.m. CT on a business day (marketed as All Day Deposit: the deposit day ends at midnight CT).
Huntington says its Funds Availability Policy and Reg CC do not apply to mobile deposits. For customers of more than 30 days, the first $500 may be available immediately and the rest between the first and second business day; customers of 30 days or less get funds between the first and second business day. Huntington may add further delays at its sole discretion.
Branch and ATM deposits
Branch and Huntington ATM check deposits follow the schedule above (up to $500 may be available immediately for established customers, the rest next business day). Huntington ATMs are identified by ® or 'Huntington' on the screen. Huntington says its night depositories are meant for business customers; a night-drop deposit counts from the business day it's removed, typically the next business day.
Cutoff: Branch: before the branch closes on a business day. Huntington ATMs: before midnight CT on a business day ('All Day Deposit').
New accounts vs. older accounts at Huntington
Customers of 30 days or less: generally up to $500 of check deposits is available the next business day and the remainder the second business day. Government, cashier's, certified and teller's checks need a special deposit slip (available at branches) to be available the next business day; otherwise the second business day. Being a customer for 30 days or less is also listed as a reason for longer holds.
Once an account is more than 30 days old, the standard schedule above applies unless an exception hold is placed.
Longer holds and exceptions
Longer delays may apply if Huntington believes a check is uncollectible, deposits in one day exceed $6,725, a returned check is redeposited, you've overdrawn repeatedly in the last six months, there's an equipment emergency, or you've been a customer for 30 days or less. Delays generally won't exceed seven (7) business days from the deposit. At least the first $275 of each day's deposits may be available the next business day.
How to get your Huntington deposit faster
Instant access to up to $500 of daily check deposits at no extra cost, at a branch, ATM or in the app, for customers whose accounts are more than 30 days old and not overdrawn. Instant Payment deposits are available the same calendar day, even on non-business days. Huntington Bank checks, U.S. Treasury checks, Fed/FHLB checks, postal money orders, government, cashier's, certified, teller's and traveler's checks are available the next business day.
Worth knowing: Free instant access to the first $500 of check deposits, plus a midnight CT deposit cutoff for ATMs and mobile, is unusually generous among big banks. For deposits made Saturday through Monday or on federal holidays, the $500 is a combined total for those days.
The federal rules behind Huntington's policy
Federal Regulation CC sets the outer limits for most check deposits at US banks, including Huntington: the first $275 by the next business day, most of the rest by the second business day, and longer “exception holds” only in specific cases. Banks can be faster, and some deposit types (such as mobile deposits at some banks) follow the bank's own schedule. Read our full guide: how long does a check take to clear? Depositing by phone? Policies change. This summary is based on Huntington's own published documents as read on October 27, 2026 (listed below). Your account agreement, the deposit screen in your app and any hold notice you receive are what count. “Not published” means we didn't find it in Huntington's public documents.
