How long does TD Bank hold a check?
Checks deposited in a TD store or at a TD ATM before the cut-off: $100 is available the same day and the full amount the next business day. Check deposits made after the cut-off are usually available in two business days.
TD Bank mobile check deposit: cutoff and availability
Cutoff: 8 p.m. ET, Monday–Friday.
Mobile check deposits made before the cut-off: full amount the next business day (no same-day $100 is listed for mobile).
Branch and ATM deposits
In a TD store and at a TD ATM, check deposits get $100 the same day and the full amount the next business day. TD does not publish a separate rule for non-TD ATMs on these pages.
Cutoff: In store: by store closing time, Monday–Friday. TD ATM: 8 p.m. ET, Monday–Friday. Deposits on Saturday, Sunday or a federal holiday count as the next business day.
New accounts vs. older accounts at TD Bank
For accounts less than 30 days old: store/ATM checks get $100 same day, $175 next business day, and the rest later; mobile checks get $275 the next business day and the rest later. TD's web page says the rest is available 'by the fourth day after the day of deposit'; its PDF flyer (11/25) says 'three business days after the date of deposit'.
Once an account is more than 30 days old, the standard schedule above applies unless an exception hold is placed.
Longer holds and exceptions
If you deposit checks totaling more than $6,725 in one day, $100 is available immediately, another $6,625 by the next business day, and the rest may be held up to 7 business days. If TD believes a check may be uncollectible, or your account 'requires extra protection', the full check may be held up to 7 business days, and that hold overrides the $100 given on the day of deposit; TD says it will contact you by letter.
How to get your TD Bank deposit faster
TD says cash, direct deposits, ACH, wires, RTP and transfers between TD accounts are available immediately, and Zelle within minutes, as ways to avoid check holds. TD does not publish a paid instant-availability option for checks.
Worth knowing: TD's cut-offs differ by channel: store closing for in-store deposits but 8 p.m. ET for ATM and mobile checks. Cash deposited at a TD ATM on the day the account is opened isn't available until the next business day.
The federal rules behind TD Bank's policy
Federal Regulation CC sets the outer limits for most check deposits at US banks, including TD Bank: the first $275 by the next business day, most of the rest by the second business day, and longer “exception holds” only in specific cases. Banks can be faster, and some deposit types (such as mobile deposits at some banks) follow the bank's own schedule. Read our full guide: how long does a check take to clear? Depositing by phone? Policies change. This summary is based on TD Bank's own published documents as read on October 27, 2026 (listed below). Your account agreement, the deposit screen in your app and any hold notice you receive are what count. “Not published” means we didn't find it in TD Bank's public documents.
