Wells Fargo mobile check deposit: cutoff and availability
Cutoff: 9 p.m. Pacific Time on a business day.
Deposits made before 9 pm PT on a business day are generally available the next day; after 9 pm PT or on a weekend/holiday they are processed the next business day and generally available the day after. Branch and ATM deposits
Cash at a teller or Wells Fargo ATM is available the same day, and the first $400 of a day's check deposits at a teller or Wells Fargo ATM is available the same day; the rest of the checks follow on the next business day. A deposit made before the cutoff on a business day counts as received that day.
Cutoff: In branch: when the branch closes for business (varies by location). Wells Fargo ATMs: 9 p.m. local time (8 p.m. in Alaska) on business days.
New accounts vs. older accounts at Wells Fargo
For the first 30 days, check deposits are available the business day after receipt and none of a day's check deposits are available the same day (no $400 same-day amount). If a hold applies, the first $6,725 of cashier's, certified, teller's, traveler's, government checks and USPS money orders is available the next business day (second business day if not deposited with an employee, except U.S. Treasury checks); the excess and all other checks by the seventh business day, though the first $275 of other checks may be available the next business day.
Once an account is more than 30 days old, the standard schedule above applies unless an exception hold is placed.
Longer holds and exceptions
Wells Fargo may hold check funds longer if it believes a check won't be paid, you deposit more than $6,725 in checks in one day, you redeposit a returned check, you've overdrawn repeatedly in the last six months, or there's an emergency; funds are generally available no later than the seventh business day. It notifies you of the hold and when funds will be available.
How to get your Wells Fargo deposit faster
Deposit at a teller, a Wells Fargo ATM or in the mobile app to get the first $400 of a day's checks the same day; incoming wires, electronic direct deposits and cash at a teller/Wells Fargo ATM are available the same day.
Worth knowing: Wells Fargo makes the first $400 of a day's check deposits available the same day, more than the federal minimum. Its mobile FAQ says a deposit made Friday before 9 pm PT is generally available Saturday.
The federal rules behind Wells Fargo's policy
Federal Regulation CC sets the outer limits for most check deposits at US banks, including Wells Fargo: the first $275 by the next business day, most of the rest by the second business day, and longer “exception holds” only in specific cases. Banks can be faster, and some deposit types (such as mobile deposits at some banks) follow the bank's own schedule. Read our full guide: how long does a check take to clear? Depositing by phone? Policies change. This summary is based on Wells Fargo's own published documents as read on October 27, 2026 (listed below). Your account agreement, the deposit screen in your app and any hold notice you receive are what count. “Not published” means we didn't find it in Wells Fargo's public documents.
