How to Send a Check by WhatsApp or Text

Fill out the check in Quick Check Writer, tap Share, choose "Share as PDF," then pick WhatsApp, Messages, or email from your phone's own share menu. The payee prints it and deposits it like any other check.

The fastest way: share a check as a PDF from your phone

Quick Check Writer builds a real, print-ready PDF of the check right on your device — the same layout that would come out of your printer, MICR line included. You can hand that PDF to someone through whatever app they'll actually see it in.

  1. Fill the check. Pick the company/bank account, enter the payee, amount, date, and memo. The amount in words fills in by itself.
  2. Sign it. Draw your signature, upload a photo of it, type it in a handwriting style, or leave it blank and sign the printed copy by hand later.
  3. Tap Share. The "Share check" sheet opens with three options: Share as PDF, Download PDF, and Print.
  4. Choose "Share as PDF." This opens your phone's own share menu — whatever is installed shows up there: WhatsApp, Messages (text), email, Google Drive, AirDrop, and so on. Pick WhatsApp to send it as a chat attachment, or Messages to send it as a text.

On a computer without a phone-style share menu, "Share as PDF" just downloads the file instead. Attach that PDF to an email yourself, or drag it into WhatsApp Web.

What the payee does with it

A shared check PDF isn't a digital payment — it's a picture of a paper check that still has to become an actual paper check. The payee has two options:

  • Print it on plain paper or check stock and deposit it the normal way, in person or through their bank's mobile deposit app, the same as any check you handed them.
  • Mobile deposit straight from the printed copy, if their bank accepts photos of printed checks for remote deposit — most major banks do, but it's worth confirming with them first if the amount is large.

Either way, the bank still has to clear the check normally. Sending it by WhatsApp or text only replaces the trip to the mailbox — it doesn't speed up or guarantee the deposit.

Safety: the PDF has your account numbers on it

A check PDF contains your bank's routing number, your account number, and your signature — the same information printed on any paper check, just easier to forward by accident. A few habits keep that safe:

  • Send it only to the right person. Double-check the contact before you hit share, especially in a group chat.
  • Think about signing by hand instead of using a saved signature for large or sensitive checks, so a saved signature image isn't floating around in chat history.
  • Treat the PDF like you'd treat cash or a blank check — don't leave it sitting in a shared drive or forward it along a chain of people.
  • Lock your phone. Quick Check Writer stores your check data only on your device, so a screen lock is your main line of defense if the phone is lost.

When a real check beats Zelle or Venmo

Apps like Zelle and Venmo move money instantly between bank accounts, and for most everyday payments between people who both have the app, they're simpler than a check. But there are plenty of times a payee specifically needs a check and won't take an app payment:

  • Landlords, HOAs, and some employers who require a paper trail or a specific payment type for their records.
  • Payees without a linked bank account for instant transfers, or who simply don't use payment apps.
  • Situations where you want a check number and a written record in your own check register, not just an app notification.
  • Larger or business payments where a physical, signed check is the expected paper trail for accounting or taxes.

In those cases, emailing, texting, or WhatsApp-ing a check PDF gets the payee a real, printable check in seconds, without a trip to the post office.

A quick example

Say you owe a landlord rent and you're traveling. Open Quick Check Writer on your phone, fill in the check with your usual company/bank profile, sign it with your saved signature, tap Share → Share as PDF → WhatsApp, and send it to your landlord's number. They print it on their own printer (plain paper is fine if it's a "Pre-printed checks" style print, or blank check stock if you used that mode) and deposit it or hand it to their bank.

Your first check is free with no watermark, so you can try this exact flow before deciding on a plan. See pricing for what unlocks after that.

Frequently asked questions

Can I text a check instead of mailing it?

Yes. Fill the check in Quick Check Writer, tap Share, choose "Share as PDF," then pick Messages (or any texting app) from your phone's share menu to send it as a text attachment.

Is it safe to send a check by WhatsApp?

It's generally safe if you send it only to the intended payee, since the PDF contains your routing and account numbers. Double-check the recipient before sending, especially in group chats.

What does the person receiving the check PDF do with it?

They print it on plain paper or check stock and deposit it, or use their bank's mobile deposit if it accepts photos of printed checks.

Can I share a check from a computer without a share menu?

Yes. On a computer, "Share as PDF" downloads the file, and you attach it to an email or WhatsApp Web yourself.

Why send a check instead of using Zelle or Venmo?

Some payees — landlords, employers, some businesses — specifically require a physical or printable check for their records, or don't use payment apps at all.
