Getting started

Simple Check Printing Software

Simple check software means no install, no learning curve, and three steps: add your bank once, fill in the check, then print or share it. Quick Check Writer does the layout and the MICR line for you.

What actually makes check software "simple"

A lot of check-printing tools were built for accountants. Simple means something narrower: you open it, add your account once, and from then on it's three taps to a finished check. That's the whole design behind Quick Check Writer.

The three steps

  1. Add your bank, once. Business or personal name, address, bank name and city, routing number, and account number (you type the account number twice, so a typo can't slip through). This is saved only on your device — it's never uploaded anywhere.
  2. Fill in the check. Payee, amount, date, optional memo. The amount in words — the line that says "One hundred fifty and 00/100" — fills itself in as you type the number, so you never have to spell it out by hand.
  3. Print it or share it. Print straight to any printer loaded with blank check stock or plain paper, or share a PDF by email, text, or WhatsApp from the Share button.

There's no template to design, no fonts to pick, and no software to install — it runs in your phone's or computer's browser, and it works offline after your first visit.

Getting it to line up: the alignment test

The one step every check printer has to get right is alignment — the MICR line, signature, and amounts have to land in the exact spots a bank's scanner and a human both expect. Quick Check Writer has a built-in alignment test page you print on plain paper first. If anything's off, you nudge the X/Y offsets in small fractions of an inch and test again, before you print on real check stock. Print at 100% scale (not "fit to page") with headers and footers turned off, and it should match on the first real print.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — the whole thing runs in a phone browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app. From a phone without a direct printer connection, use Share → Print, which hands the job to whatever print option your phone offers (AirPrint, a cloud printer, etc.), or share the PDF to a computer to print from there.

Who this is actually for

  • Landlords and small landlords paying contractors or depositing rent by check.
  • Freelancers and small business owners who occasionally need to write a business check.
  • Anyone who needs to pay someone who specifically wants a paper or printable check — see how to share a check for that path.
  • People who don't want a full accounting suite just to print the occasional check.

What it honestly doesn't do

Being simple means staying out of jobs that belong to other software:

  • No accounting sync. It doesn't connect to QuickBooks, Xero, or any bookkeeping tool — you'd record the payment there yourself.
  • No mailing service. It doesn't print and mail checks for you; you print or share the PDF and send it yourself.
  • No payroll tax math. It can print a paycheck and a stub note, but it doesn't calculate withholding or deductions — see printing payroll checks for how that split works.
  • Not a bank. It doesn't move money, verify funds, or process ACH or eChecks — it only designs and prints the paper.

If you need QuickBooks sync or check mailing, a tool like Checkeeper (see our comparison) is built for that. Quick Check Writer is built to be the fast, cheap option when you just need to print a check.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything to print checks?

No. Quick Check Writer runs in your phone's or computer's browser, and it works offline after your first visit. You can add it to your home screen if you want it to open like an app.

Does the amount in words fill in automatically?

Yes. Type the numeric amount and the written amount line fills itself in, so there's no spelling it out by hand.

Can simple check software print on blank paper?

Yes. Quick Check Writer has a "Blank check stock" mode that prints everything including the MICR line, and a "Pre-printed checks" mode for stock that already has your bank's MICR line on it.

Does it sync with QuickBooks or other accounting software?

No. It doesn't connect to QuickBooks, Xero, or any accounting tool — you'd log the payment in your own books separately.

How much does check printing software cost?

The first check is free. After that, plans start at $1.99/month for one bank account, up to $4.99/month (or $49.99/year) for up to 10 companies and bank accounts.
