What a check register is for
A check register is the running list of checks you’ve written. It answers the questions that come up every month: did I pay the plumber, what number was that check, which account did it come from, and how much is still outstanding? Keeping one is how you reconcile your bank statement and catch a check that was altered or cashed twice.
A register that keeps itself
- Automatic entries. Print a check, or share it as a PDF, and it’s in the register. No retyping.
- Every detail: check number, date, payee, amount, memo, bank account and status.
- Filter by status: all checks, printed or void.
- Reprint a check exactly as it was, if the printer jammed or the payee lost it.
- Void a check so your records show it was cancelled, and the number isn’t reused by mistake.
- Share a PDF of any past check.
- Export to CSV to open in a spreadsheet for taxes, an accountant or your own reconciliation.
- QuickBooks export (Pro): download your checks as a CSV for QuickBooks Online or an IIF file for QuickBooks Desktop. Void checks are left out. Step-by-step help is in our QuickBooks guide.

Write your first check freeHow to reconcile with your bank statement
- Export the register for the statement month, or filter it on screen.
- Tick off each check that appears on the statement as paid.
- Whatever is left is outstanding. Follow up on anything older than a few weeks.
- If a paid amount differs from your register, call your bank straight away; it may be an altered check.
Several accounts, one register
If you write checks from more than one account (a business and a personal account, or several properties), each check is tagged with the account it came from. Personal covers two bank accounts and Pro covers up to 10 companies or accounts.
Private and offline
The register lives on your device, not on our servers, and it works offline. To move it to another phone or computer, or just to keep a safe copy, use Export backup under Setup and Import backup on the other device.
Printable check register vs an app
A printable register sheet is free and works fine if you write a check a month and always remember to log it. If you write more than that, or print your checks anyway, an automatic register saves the bookkeeping and the mistakes. Since Quick Check Writer prints the check and logs it in one step, the register is always complete.

On your device only. It is not uploaded to our servers. Use Export backup to keep a copy or move it to another device.
