Check writing software for Mac

Most check printing programs were built for Windows. Quick Check Writer runs in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox on any Mac, from a MacBook Air to an iMac, so there’s nothing to download and nothing that breaks on the next macOS update. Your first check is free.

Why a browser app is the easy answer on a Mac

Mac owners looking for check software usually hit the same walls: Windows-only installers, old apps that stopped working after a macOS upgrade, or bookkeeping suites that cost far more than printing a few checks is worth. A browser-based check writer avoids all three. It runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs alike, it’s always up to date, and it uses the same print dialog as every other app on your Mac.

Your bank details don’t go to a server either. Companies, routing and account numbers, payees and check history are stored in your browser on your Mac and never uploaded.

What you can do

  • Real checks with the MICR line. Your routing and account numbers print in the E-13B bank font, laid out to the ANSI X9 standard, on blank check stock.
  • Amount in words, automatically, with asterisk padding so nothing can be added.
  • Top, middle, bottom or 3 per page, and voucher stubs with your own note.
  • Your logo and signature: draw it, upload a photo, or type it in a handwriting style.
  • Payee address book, with the address placed for window envelopes.
  • Batch printing when you have several checks to run.
  • A check register of everything you print, with reprint, void and CSV export.
  • Save as PDF to print later, or to email or text a check.

How to print a check on a Mac

  1. Open quickcheckwriter.com in Safari or Chrome and choose the free plan.
  2. Add your company or name and your bank account once.
  3. Print the alignment test on plain paper and line it up with your check stock.
  4. Fill in the payee, amount, date and memo.
  5. Click Print check. In the macOS print dialog choose your printer, paper size US Letter and scale 100%, and turn off headers and footers.

Mac print settings that matter

  • Scale: 100%. Never “Scale to fit”, which shrinks the MICR line.
  • Headers and footers off (in Safari, uncheck “Print headers and footers”; in Chrome, under More settings).
  • Paper feed: check whether your printer takes check stock face-up or face-down by printing the test page first.
  • Laser printers give the sharpest MICR line. Inkjets work too; let the ink dry before folding.

Keep it in your Dock

Want it to feel like a regular Mac app? In Chrome or Edge, use the install icon in the address bar. In recent versions of Safari, choose File › Add to Dock. Quick Check Writer then opens in its own window, and after your first visit it works offline too, so you can print checks even when the Wi-Fi is down.

Moving between Mac and iPhone

Because data stays on each device, use Export backup under Setup on one device and Import backup on the other to copy your accounts, payees and register across. Prefer the phone? See the check writing app for iPhone.

Price

Your first check is free, with no watermark and no account. After that, printed checks show “SAMPLE – NOT VALID” until you choose a plan: Basic $1.99 a month (1 bank account), Personal $2.99 (2 accounts) or Pro $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year (up to 10 companies, plus QuickBooks export), with a 7-day free trial on Pro for new customers.
